Blessing of Wisdom for Mages in Zul'Gurub

Hi there,
you're a mage? Nice. Please read this if you are new to raiding in ZG.
This is an attempt to write down some experience from our ZG raids
with focus on the Mage role. Comments are warmly welcome.
If you want to contribute with some words of wisdom in this article you are more than welcome.
Hope we will get a complete list for all bosses some day :)
Cya in ZG!

Snake boss - High Priest Venoxis

Phase 1 - Get rid of the Snake adds

  • Venoxis has 4 snake adds, and you will be assigned one to sheep
  • After main tank pulls Venoxis and the snakes are coming down, sheep your snake
  • The snakes will then be killed one at a time

Phase 2 - Ranged dps until 50%

  • At this moment Venoxis still has some mana to be drained so only ranged dps is allowed
  • Important to keep the distance to avoid Venoxis heavy AoE
  • At 50% health, Venoxis transforms to a snake, and at that moment the main tank need to regain aggro
  • You are probably low on mana at this moment so use Evocation to get mana for the rest of the fight

Phase 3 - Finish the job!

  • When main tank has control of the aggro go for full DPS, listen to the RAID leader
  • Keep the distance all the time
  • Get out of poison clouds

Bat Boss - High Priestess Jeklik

Phase 1 - Incoming swarms of Bats

  • Main task - AoE incoming bats
  • Jeklik should be tanked on distance from AoE group to avoid them beeing Silenced
  • Bats need to be gathered in one place and then "Frost nova"
  • Mages alternate Frost nova due to cooldown
  • Healing, shielding, Pally AoE and focused AoE are important parameters for a mage to not be toast
  • DPS boss when possible

Phase 2 - 50% health

  • At 50% health Jeklik transforms back to humanoid form
  • Let tank regain aggro and then DPS boss
  • There are no incoming swarms of bats at this phase, instead you have to pay attention to dropped fire bombs - use Fire Ward at this moment and keep moving
  • Keep distance and get out from fire bombs areas fast
  • When Jeklik casts greater heal (check chat log), cast Counter spell (not sure if that works anymore though)

Bloodlord Mandokir

  • This boss doesn't use spells, so the mage buff that increases spell damage and increases healing can be put on the tanks.
  • Bloodlord is tanked by main tank and Raptor is off-tanked
  • Bloodlord is going to be killed first
  • When main tank holds aggro, dps Bloodlord
  • Important! When Bloodlord says that he is watching you, like "Hidalgo I'm watching you!" (see your chat log), cancel all actions and press Esc-button
  • If you attack him when you are beeing watched he probably will kill you
  • Be careful with DoTs like Fireball (yes it has an extra 8 sec DoT), cause it's not a good idea to have a DoT on him if he starts watching you
  • Because you probably use Arcane Missiles you are going to consume much Mana and a Mana potion is good to have
  • When Bloodlord is down it's piece of cake to finish the raptor
