A word from UNITY
Even if we aren't actively recruiting members, there may always be a small opening as sometimes when we lack members of certain classes. So please feel free to Apply on the homepage if you are interested and/or contact the Class Leader for the class you are applying to see the current status of your recruitment.
Mostly however we do advertise on the Home page of the site if we are in need of certain classes.
We would like to welcome new members or old friends returning, and those of you who are thinking of joining UNITY, with a few words:
UNITY is a social mixture of people aged ranging up from 18 and older, all with an individual gaming styles, which means you will find both people who are focusing on the challenge of end game instances as well as people who are still learning the game. We also have players who want both, which means they participate in the challenge of the harder Instances once in a while but still find a joy in doing those other activities and possibilities the game can provide. This is a mixture that hopefully will find make you find at least some of us good playmates!
UNITY is large Guild. This means that new members sometimes can feel lost before they have started to get to know us all. We do try to make you feel welcome it may just take some time to get to know you, so have patience with us. Sometimes it takes a little while until one finds that special little group of players (within the bigger group) that one feels specially connected to. But all friendships have to start with something somewhere.
We don't encourage boosting in this guild, so don't expect a high level to pull you through Deadmines or Gnomeregan. We want guildies who have learned to play their character well, and an important part of that is the practice you get from completing the dungeons the way it is meant to be - by going to instances with a group your own level you will get to know your character and how to play it when in a group.
Sometimes it can be hard to get response for ones calls for quest help or company in the Guild chat because they may be busy with something and aren't paying attention to guild chat. don't get frustrated with your fellow guildies see if there is an officer online or try to ask your question a little later on when there are more people online in the guild.
A good way to get help for questing or to form a group for an instance, is to install and use Group Calendar. This is a calender which will be displayed as an interface button and is an add-on that we use to advertise both events created by the Guild and those set up by other members. You can either find an event to subscribe to or set up an event your self in the calender.
It is also wise to add your Class Leader to the friends list. They are there to offer support and helpfull advise for your class. If you are high level and plan to join raids TeamSpeak (TS) is a must.
Finally some useful tips about UNITY from Olly
I often hear new members and some not so new members complaining that they don’t get any help in the game or get invited to raids. You may also see some players who get a lot of help and wonder why you don’t get any help or invites.
What all players need to realise is that what goes around, comes around.
In other words, if you are always helping others, be it helping on quests, joining for a dungeon (even though you don’t really want to go), crafting something or just answering questions eventually you will find that people will always want to help you.
So I’ve put together a guide to give someone who wants to get on in UNITY.
1. Check out the website.
Congratulations! If you’re reading this then you’re obviously doing tip no.1. However, you really need to check out the website and forums on a daily basis. Even better, try contributing to the forums, it’ll get you noticed.
2. When a member asks for help in guild chat, jump at the chance to assist them. Even if it means dropping what you’re doing to rush to their aid. They will remember you for this and that will improve your chances of getting on in the guild.
3. Be polite to fellow members at all times. We all like to make fun of other people but if you do it to someone who hardly knows you, they might be offended. Get to know Stelli first before calling him a sheep shagger. Mages have feelings too.
4. Make sure that your alts have a note on them telling everyone that they’re yours. Someone might be looking for you to invite you to a raid.
5. When a member helps you with something whether it’s a quest, dungeon or crafting something for you, make sure you thank them. If you don’t it could be the last time they help you and word gets around about ungrateful players.
6. Use your profession to help others. There is only so much money you need in this game, so where possible craft things for fellow guildies for free.
7. Don’t ask for help all the time, for example spamming for boosts. You can’t learn to play your class properly if you’re getting boosted all the time.
8. Go to all the dungeons as much as possible. You may think you can play your character, but we are all still learning. If you’re regarded as a good player of your class you will get lots of invites to raids. A good player has at least revered status, if not exalted with all the main factions. You need to run all the instances a lot to gain this reputation. Remember, if you don’t think you or your gear is good enough for Heroics, you aren’t ready for Karazhan.
9. When you sign up on Group Calendar for an instance like Karazhan, don’t assume that just because your name is on the list that you’re going. Signing up on Group Calendar just shows that you’re interested. Apart from healers and tanks we have too many of the other classes and therefore we need to rotate everyone. Please be patient, the officers do try to make sure that everyone who wants to go, goes sometime. In the meantime, run those other instances and improve your gear.
If I cast Misdirect on you, it’s because I like you! Honestly! Olly.
